We can immediately say that is not in the Toulouse architectural style .
You notice it right away on this street in Toulouse.
It's a true palace made of while stone.
This mansion is called the " Hôtel de Pierre or Clary " .
The history :
It was built by the architect " Nicolas Bachelier " in 1537 around an interior courtyard, modeled after Italian Palaces .
The entrance door is intricately crafted, features notably superb breaded old men whose expressiveness recalls the works of Michelangelo .
In 1602, " Nicolas de Guerrier " , a wealthy apothecary, bought the mansion, which later passed to " François de Clary " .
This man has had a truly remarkable career .
He eventually became the first President of Parliament in 1611 .
He was also a prominent dignitary of the Académie des Jeux Floraux of Toulouse.
I remember you that our Académie is the oldest in the World.
It was 700 years old !!! .
But the Clary couple due to their rank, found the mansion too modest.
In the 17th. century, the city administrators allowed the " Clary " couple to built a splendid façade on the street reminiscent of the Italian architecture of the " Palladio in Vicence " .
It was built by the architect " Pierre Souffron " .
This mansion is an architectural gem of our city in the Renaissance Style .
The architecture :

For the construction of this remarkable façade, the greatest architects and sculptors in the country were called upon.
We can observe the presence of a stone carved exterior with pilasters, garlands, fruits, trophies of arms, eagles and suns .
We can say it is impressive : nice enormous columns, pilasters topped with Corinthian capitals, support a cornice crowned by a pediment .
At the same time, it was built a very important bridge for our city, it's the medieval bridge that you could see if you will discover Toulouse: The " Pont Neuf " .
This bridge was built with white stones , and the people of Toulouse said that the stone cam from " Pont Neuf " , which connected " The Saint-Jacques hospital " to the city center, and that there were more stones than on the bridge !!! .
In 1857, " Calvet-Besson " , the new owner, altered the Baroque façade with heavy sculptured completed and placed the coasts os arms of " François de Clary " and his own above the doors .
All of this was carried out by architect " Urbain Vitry " and sculptor " Calmette " .
The sculpted decor of these splendid façade was not completed until the 19th. century.
The four buildings sections are arranged around a central courtyard, and a garden extends at the back.
The elevations facing the courtyard where stone and brick intertwine are richly adorned .
The door with " Atlantes by Bachelier " opens into a staircase with a straight banister, on of the first example in Toulouse .
This splendid Renaissance mansion was classified as a Historical Monument in 1889 .
The interior of the Clary mansion :
The two main features are the grand Renaissance-style fireplace and the pained ceilings.
The presence of the first straight staircase of the Renaissance in Toulouse showcases decor that marks the emergence of the Doric order in the city, reflecting a sought after reference to ancient architecture !!! .
That's all today my friends.
If you ever visit Toulouse, don't miss this gem of Renaissance architecture in our pink city .
The only issue is that it isn't open to the public, but through this post, a least you can discover the interior of this true Italian-style palace !!! .
