  • INTRODUCTION :

Today in this post, the Toulouse blog will be talking about art-especially contemporary art !.

Indeed, I'm going to introduce you to our city's contemporary art museum : Le musée des Abattoirs !!! .

  • A LITTLE HISTORY :

Old photographs showing the former municipal slaughterhouses of Toulouse. Today, it is a place dedicated to art. Where once blood flowed.
An ancient photo of the contemporary museum of Toulouse, where the blood flowed in the past .

It's worth that this building has undergone a remarkable transformation .

In fact, it used to be a slaughterhouse-hence the name where blood was everywhere !!!.

Nowadays, it has become a place dedicated to art !!! .

The original building was constructed in 1825 by the Toulouse-based architect " Urbain Vitry " .

He designed a basilica-style building with symmetrical layout and neoclassical architecture.

Animal slaughter activities came to an end in 1988.

The building was listed as a historic monument in 1990.

In 1995, a project was approved by the city council to trasform the site into our city's contemporary art museum.

It opened its doors in 2000.

  • The Collections :

They are showcased by the building's highly successful renovation.

The museum holds no fewer than 4 000 works and objects.

This place is truly unique.

With a change in management, the collections on display have become quite remarkable.

We've had the chance to admire works by " NIKKI DE SAINT-PHALLE and GIACOMETTI " !.

There are always permanent and temporary collections, as well as a library, workshops, an auditorium, a bookstore, and even a restaurant-making this museum a true living space !!!.

  • A must visit palce next to the museum :

  1. The " Raymond IV " Garden :

It is very pleasant and will charm both children and adults.

Indeed, for children, there is a carousel and playgrounds.

For the adults, you can admire the old medieval ramparts of Toulouse, beautifully restored.

It' s a perfect place for relaxing, reading, taking a nap, and much more !!! .

  1. The pop-up Guiguette called : " Buvette A n'en donné-Guinguette " :

This guinguette is open throughout the beautiful season, from early May to late October.

It enjoys a particularly appealing location !!! .

Indeed, you'll have a breathtaking view of the Garonne River and the historic city of Toulouse !!! .

You can take a footbridge that offers a view of the waterfall formed by the Garonne at this spot.

The footbridge will lead you to " The Quai de L'Exil des Répiblicains Espagnols " , the former neighborhood where Spanish refugees fled Franco's regime !!! .

This Guinguette is open from 11 a.m to 10:30 p.m .

That's all today, my friends !!!.
