A little history :

Everything began in 1972, when the " Convention " established an artillery park in Toulouse to meet the needs of the Army of the Pyrenees.
This site was called the " Polygone " and was used as a firing range for testing, as well as for few training by the artillery school, which built a few structures there before 1840.
IN 1875, the " Arsenal" expanded and established a loading workshop outside the city on the grounds of the " Polygone ".
Gradually, the cartridge ans shell casing workshops of the " Arsenal " were transfered to the " Polygone ", a military site located to the west of Toulouse.
During the First World War, 15 000 people worked in these halls, most of them women !!!.
Between the two wars, the site expanded with the construction of two new buildings .
From 1939 and 1940, production tripled.
In 1942, weapons manufacturing resumed under German occupation .
In 1975, 10 hectares of land were given to the city of Toulouse.
In 2010 and 2011, the site was decontaminated .
Because as early as 2006, the city conseil planned to cerated an eco-district .
The project is vast, located near the ZENITH, Toulouse's concert hall .
It welcomed its first residents in 2015 .
Two remarkable phases of redevelopment took place on this site.
Indeed, the site evolved from a shooting range to weapon manufacturing, and today has become a complex dedicated to cuisine, sports, and culture.....a vibrant, human-centered place for wonderful interactions.
The concept :
It seems to me that this type of food hall first appeared in Lisbon, Portugal .
Now, there are food hall in most cities around the world.
The halls, with a long of 190 meters, will offer you numerous services.
" The Market Square " :
On 3 000M2, you can taste regional food, as well as food from all over the world.
There are 25 foods stands, numerous bars and even a cooking school !!! .
At the beginning, I must say that, I thought the price was expensive for the service offered.

A Jungle area :
When you exit the dining area, there is a space where you will find two bars.
The decor is inspired by the " urban jungle " and offers a friendly relaxation aera.

For me, this is the greatest curiosity of the Toulouse food halls.
Indeed, in a large space, you will be offered a variety of different sports activities.

It was inaugurated in 2024 and offers a very diverse program, concerts, shows, club nights, dance, comedy, conferences....
It capacity ranges from 450 and 750 seats.
It is a remarkable complement to the food hall .
The upcoming opening of a cinema :
In the second building, the Cartoucherie complex will be enhanced by the addition of a cinema starting in October 2025.
It will be named : " Véo Cinéma de la Cartoucherie ".
It will consist of 4 screening rooms a total of 380 seats and will carry a dual label : Young Audience and Art House " .

It is directly accessible by tram.
