INTRODUCTION :

Today, the Toulouse blog presents a new mansion from our city, which we owe to the golden age of woad that Toulouse experienced in the 16th. century : " The Molinier or Felzin " mansion !!! .
Let's set oof together to discover this magnificent building !!! .
A LITTLE HISTORY :
It was built in the mid-16th. century by " Gaspard Molinier " , a notable gentleman of our city.
The mansion originally had two courtyards and a garden.
In the 17th. century, the garden was replaced by a third courtyard.
After his death, the property was inherited by his son, but following his son's passing, it changed hands many times.
After the French Revolution, in 1794, the property was sold to " Raymond Dumas " , a former prosecutor of the Parliament.
His daughter married Baron " Felzin " , and that's how the mansion came to bear its current name.
Their son later undertook major restructuring work in the 19th. century .
By 1889, the entire building had been designated a Historic Monument.
ARCHITECTURE :

The mansion features three courtyards, which is rather unusual.
The construction materials include stone, brick, and marble , thanks to Toulouse's proximity to the Pyrenees !!! .
The part of the building facing the street was originally constructed in the 16th. century and was remodeled in the 19th. century.
-The impressive entrance gate :
It is among the most beautiful gateways in Toulouse.
Serving as the main entrance to this beautiful mansion, the gateway dates from 1556 .
Unlike many other mansions in Toulouse, this one had a gateway and courtyards too narrow for carriages to pass through at the time.
The gateway's decoration is absolutely magnificent, framed by two paired Corinthian columns.
It design is remarkable for its exuberance :
Fantastical animal decorations
Featuring a rich interplay of textures, materials, and colors.
The door boasts exquisite bas-relief sculptures, while the gateway, entirely made of stone with marble inlays, showcases the owner's wealth.
-19th. century remodeling of the mansion :
-In The mansion's first courtyard :
The first courtyard is quite narrow, featuring a staircase at its far end.
Though the 19th. century renovations have greatly changed its original layout.
-In the mansion's second courtyard :
This space used to be a garden.....
Replacing it, three U-shaped buildings, built between the 17th. and 19th. centuries, enclose this courtyard, which is bigger than the other two .
The courtyard features two especially striking decorative elements.
The courtyard includes a lovely Renaissance window and an angled turret.
A ground-floor room has retained its monumental 16th-century fireplace in the " Henri II " style .
-In the mansion's third courtyard :
It is located at the back of the property.
It is bordered by two wings set at right angles, constructed in different periods.
That's all for today my friends.
this mansion in Toulouse is open to view, so if you ever visit our city, don't hesitate to go and see it for yourself....
Welcome in Toulouse.
