INTRODUCTION : Today, the Toulouse blog presents a new mansion from our city, which we owe to the golden age of woad that Toulouse experienced in the 16th. century : " The Molinier or Felzin " mansion !!! . Let's set oof together to discover this magnificent building !!! . A LITTLE HISTORY : It was built in the mid-16th. century by " Gaspard Molinier " , a notable gentleman of our city. The mansion originally had two courtyards and a garden. In the 17th. century, the garden was replaced by a third courtyard. After his death, the property was inherited by his son, but following his son's passing, it changed hands many times. After the French Revolution, in 1794, the property was sold to " Raymond Dumas " , a former prosecutor of the Parliament. His daughter married Baron " Felzin " , and that's how the mansion came to bear its current name. Their son later undertook major restructuring work in the 19th. century . By 1889, the entire building had been designated a Historic Monument. ARCHITECTURE : The mansion features three courtyards, which is rather unusual. The construction materials include stone, brick, and marble , thanks to Toulouse's proximity to the Pyrenees !!! . The part of the building facing the street was originally constructed in the 16th. century and was remodeled in the 19th. century. -The impressive entrance gate : It is among the most beautiful gateways in Toulouse. Serving as the main entrance to this beautiful mansion, the gateway dates from 1556 . Unlike many other mansions in Toulouse, this one had a gateway and courtyards too narrow for carriages to pass through at the time. The gateway's decoration is absolutely magnificent, framed by two paired Corinthian columns. It design is remarkable for its exuberance : Fantastical animal decorations Featuring a rich interplay of textures, materials, and colors. The door boasts exquisite bas-relief sculptures, while the gateway, entirely made of stone with marble inlays, showcases the owner's wealth. -19th. century remodeling of the mansion : -In The mansion's first courtyard : The first courtyard is quite narrow, featuring a staircase at its far end. Though the 19th. century renovations have greatly changed its original layout. -In the mansion's second courtyard : This space used to be a garden..... Replacing it, three U-shaped buildings, built between the 17th. and 19th. centuries, enclose this courtyard, which is bigger than the other two . The courtyard features two especially striking decorative elements. The courtyard includes a lovely Renaissance window and an angled turret. A ground-floor room has retained its monumental 16th-century fireplace in the " Henri II " style . -In the mansion's third courtyard : It is located at the back of the property. It is bordered by two wings set at right angles, constructed in different periods. - The Church of " Saint-Pierre des Chartreux " in Toulouse .
INTRODUCTION : I told you that the charm of Toulouse lies in the fact that it doesn't reveal itself easily. The church, I'm about to presents to you is proof of that !. It is magnificent, and to my knowledge, it is the only church in Toulouse that does not have the city's typical architecture. Indeed it is Baroque in style !!! . It feels more like in Budapest, Vienna or Prague. And now, shall we explore it together..... A little history : In the context of the religious wars, the " Chartreux " Community found exile in Toulouse at the very end on the 16th. century, because even though Toulouse was Catholic, the surrounding region was largely Protestant. The " Chartreux " requested permission fron the " Capitouls ", the administration, to built a church. They did so in 1602 and added a splendid monastery. An important step was the renovation f the transept's decoration, which had consisted of fresco-painted ceilings. Finally, a new main altar was commissioned. In 2007, the church of " SAINT -Pierre " became the seat of the student parish of Toulouse ! . Originally, this church was dedicated to the Virgin Mary, but during the French Revoluton, it was converted into a military arsenal, and in 1792, the church took the name " Saint-Pierre ". The ARCHITECTURE of the Church : -Entrance : It is not grandiose, but it had its charm, it is especially discreet with its long wall of terracotta bricks and its very beautiful white stone pediment, adorned with statues and Dorics columns. The portal was sculpted in 1613 by " Antoine Bachelier " . Its distinctive feature is that it opens on a large " atrium" hall, which houses the parish's war memorial. -Introduction to the two naves of this church : Another major of this church is that the central choir is divided into two parts. Indeed, the main altar is located at the center of the church, making it two-faced. On one side is the nave for the " faithful " , open to everyone, and on the other is the nave for the " monks" , reserved for the clergy. -The nave of faithful : Another curiosity of this church is that it has three chapels on each side.... On the side of the nave for the faithful, it is located on the left : As you approach the choir, there is a chapel dedicated to the souls in Purgatory. At the Sacred Heart. Our lady of the Rosary. On the right side, there is : The Baptiste Chapel A Our Lady of Sorrows with a magnificent Pietà Virgin carved from a single block of 14th. century stone !!! . Finally, at Saint-Pierre " . The walls and ceiling are painting with Neo-Renaissance motifs, and the pulpit, dating from the 18th. century, is shaped like a ship's hull. Finally, in this nave, you can observe numerous paintings, including the " Adoration of the Shepherds " and the " portrait of the cardinal Archbishop of Toulouse " . -The main altar : It is double-sided because it is located at the center of the church , separating the area for the public from that reserved for the clergy. It was constructed starting n 1780 with many marbles coming from the Pyrenees. It is adorned with a splendid sculpture depicting angels crowing the " Blessed Sacrament " , dating from 1785 and listed as a historic monument. The two monumental " Carrara " white marble angels, sculpted by ' François Lucas " are inspired by those he encountered during his many travels to Rome. We saw particularly in their poses, drapery and facial features. Importantly, in 1780, the painted ceiling of the transept was replaced with a stucco decoration. Four bas-reliefs depicting angelic musicians were placed in the pendentives of the dome. -The monk's choir : Unfortunately, this part of the church located on the other side of the altar, is ot accessible to the public. It consists of six rooms carved in the 17th. century. On two levels, one can discover four series of artistic representations. The addition of the organ and gallery dates from the 18th. century. -The organs : The gallery organ, located on the monk's choir side, is listed as a historic monument and originally comes from the " Jacobin " Convent in Toulouse. The other organ is located to the right altar in the faithful's choir is a choir organ htat has existed since 1877. -A splendid curiosity on the monk's choir side : There is a Chapel of the " Sainte-Croix " opening beneath the organ gallery. It features an exceptional collection of wooden sculpted dating from the early decades of the 17th. century. -The carillon : The church has a carillon of 15 bells, the only manual carillon in the city; It is played daily by volunteer students. -The cloister : They served as places of spiritual retreat for the monks, features individual cells and a central garden conducive to meditation. The cloister was destroyed during the French Revolution and replaced by military arsenal in 1845. There you have it, my friends, that's all for today. I am very happy to have shared with you this splendid church in our city of Toulouse, which clearly shows that the Pink City holds many surprises for its visitors !!! . Welcome in Toulouse. - History of the construction of the levees that protect Toulouse from the floods of the Garonne !!! .
Aerial view of Toulouse and its river, the Garonne, which the magnificent quays built in the 18th. century during the " siècle des Lumières " . For a long time, Toulouse, lacking protective dikes, experienced numerous devastating floods of the Garonne River. INTRODUCTION : Old photography shows that, for heritage reasons and because the bourgeoisie lives in the historic center of Toulouse, bricks dikes about ten meters high had already been built in the 18TH. century. Across the river, however, the district of hospitals, the destitute, prostates, and the sick suffered numerous devastating floods from the Garonne River. Toulouse and the Garonne share a long history. However, the river has never been peaceful or calm.... Since Toulouse was not aways protected by levees, it was repeatedly devastated throughout history by destructive floods of its river. In this post, I'm going to tell you the construction of Toulouse's levees, which protect our city and contribute to its beauty.... A LITTLE HISTORY : The first era : Toulouse before the levees : In Toulouse, two worlds have always coexisted throughout history !!! . The district of the wealthy and the bourgeoisie, which was, of course, the historic heart of our city. And the other side, the left bank, which was the neighborhood of hospitals, the destitute, prostitutes, the sick, and all those considered undesirable. Of course, it was only much later that this latter bank was protected from the floods of the Garonne. This bank has throughout history experienced devastating floods of the GARONNE. You can still see evidence of this today by looking at the remains of a pier from a medieval bridge called the " Vieux-Pont " , which was connected to the " Saint-Jacques Dieu Hospital ". But the most devastating flood Toulouse has ever experienced occurred in 1875. At that time, the " Saint-Cyprien " district, one home to Spanish refugees and located on the left bank of the river, was completely destroyed. In the end, 208 people died and 1 200 houses were demolished. A historic flood level of 8,3é meters was recorded at the site of today's " Pont Neuf " in Toulouse. The second period marks the construction of the first diges protecting Toulouse ' s historic bourgeois district : In this photo, taken under a magnificent blue sky, we can clearly see the meter high protective dike made of terracotta bricks, built in the 18th. century to protect the bourgeois historic center of Toulouse. For obvious heritage reasons, it was not until the Enlightenment era, in the 18th. century, that magnificent dikes were built to protect the historic center of Toulouse from the river's floods. The project was designed by " Joseph-Marie Saget " and was adopted in 1776. A brick wall about ten meters high was built. Trees were planted along the roadway, lining the entire length of the quays. Toady, this gives the area a great sense of elegance !!! . Interrupted by the French Revolution, the project remained unfinished. However, the magic truly happens on a beautiful summer evening, when the setting sun bathes the terracotta brick façades along the quays in warm light !!! . The construction of the dikes to protect the left-bank of the Garonne : It was not until 1906 that Toulouse municipality decided to remove the hospitals from the district. The initial goal was to widen the riverbed in order to better protect this bank from flooding. It was only during the 19th. and 20th. centuries that the dikes were built ti shield the residents of the river's left bank. Today, approximately 16km of dikes protect Toulouse from the floods of the Garonne River!. THE QUAYS OF TOULOUSE : The "Quai Lombard" from the Place Saint-Pierre to the Port de la Dauarde : Photograph showing the magnificent quay built in the 18TH. century in Toulouse to protect the city's historic center, known as " Quais Lombard" . One can admire the beautiful alignement of trees and buildings that gives all its charm of these quays of Toulouse, the Pink City. Many historic and magnificent buildings can be seen along this quay : Many buildings feature unique and beautiful wooden loggias at their tops : Photo showing one of the must see curiosities on the banks of the Garonne in Toulouse, featuring buildings with typically Toulouse architecture topped with loggias supported by wooden columns dating from the 19th. century. This is quite unusual and makes the quays of Toulouse truly splendid !!! . Dating back to 1830, these wooden structures, supported by Doric-style columns, resemble handing balconies. In fact, they are 19th-century classical-style loggias. However, their timeless elegance preserves the spirit of the 19th. century quays !!! . The smallest street in Toulouse dating back to the Middle Ages : " La rue Étroite " : Photo showing a medieval street, the narrowest in Toulouse at the only 2,5à meters wide. It is called " Rue Étroite" and has withhold the development of the Garonne quays that took place in the 18th. century. It is only 2,50 meters wide, and you can't miss it with its old building façade wide open. It was in 19th. century that it received its current name. The street was spared from the grand dike project imagined by " Saget " in the 18th. century. This little street feels like a reconciliation between two worlds that have always coexisted in Toulouse : The medieval city with it commercial and industrial streets, and the magnificent " Quais Lombard ", with its splendid row of bourgeois buildings !!! . The Quai de la Daurade, from Place de la Daurade to Pont neuf : Photo showing the magnificent quay, with a splendid alignment of trees and city monuments in Toulouse. These quays contribute to the magic and beauty of the Pink city !!! . Place de la Daurade : It's a lively and welcoming space that connects the quayside to the river port !!! . Throughout the year, many events are held here. But there are also places and experiences I highly recommend you try when visiting this spot. Have a drink at the " Café des artistes " located at the top of the quays on Place de la Daurade : Café of Toulouse located on the city's quays and considered an institution? It is situated on the rogue floor of a building dating back to the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the visible timber framing on its g-façade. If you visit Toulouse , be sure to enjoy a drink on this beautiful terrace, which offers one of th best views of the city. This Café has been a fixture on the square for many years. It offers one of the most beautiful views of the city's left bank. Take the time to sit on its pleasant terrace at any time of the ady, though it's especially lovely in the evening at sunset !!! . Have a drink at the Guinguette " Du Pêcheur de sable " located down by the river port : Photo showing the lower part of the quays of Toulouse, near Place de la Daurade, where you'll find a charming " Guinguette " rich of history, offering drinks and fast food. There is also a playground of children in this area. It is rich in history, with its neoclassical pedimented façade. In the past, the site was occupied by boatmen, sand fishermen, and washerwomen. Today, those times are long gone. At this very spot, you'll now find a charming little riverside Café. You can enjoy a drink or a quick bite to eat while taking advantage of the various amenities along the banks of the Garonne !!! . The departure point for Toulouse's boats, offering an unforgettable cruise along the Garonne : Photo taken under a beautiful blue sky at the old river port of Toulouse, located in the lower part of the quays near the Place de la Daurade, where cruises depart on the Garonne or the Canal de Midi. It's well known that discovering a city from its river offers a unique and fascinating perspective. It's not an exception in Toulouse..... That's why I recommend boarding one of the cruises on the Garonne or the Canal du Midi, which depart from this very spot...an unforgettable experience !!! . Daurade church : Photo of the Church of " La Daurade " located on the quays of Toulouse, inviting us into an atmosphere reminiscent of Ancient Greece. Indeed, ts pediment and withe stone columns are quite atypical on these quays, where most buildings are made of the terracotta bricks typical of Toulouse. Inside, you can discover a very rear Black Madonna. The church was built on the remains of a former Roman temple dedicated to Apollo, dating back to the 5th. century. It was demolished in 1761 to make way for the development to the Garonne quays. It was rebuilt in 1764 and more recently renovated between 2017 and 2019. The church is a most-see, known for is mural paintings and its Black Madonna !!! . To learn more, check out the post on the four must-see churches in Toulouse . The mansions and their neoclassical façades on the Place de la Daurade : These mansions, located at numbers 4 and 6 of Place de la Daurade, date to 1760/1779 and are built in the neoclassical style. The façades are built in the neoclassical style. The façades are symmetrical, featuring wrought-iron balconies and decorative friezes. On Quai de la Daurade stands the magnificent Toulouse School of Fine Arts : This magnificent white stone sculpted façade of this iconic Toulouse building is none other than the School of Fine Art of our city, located on the banks of the Garonne. It stands out, as most of the other buildings are made of terracotta bricks in the typical architecture style of Toulouse. If you ever stroll along the quays of Toulouse, be sure stop and admire this splendid façade. This magnificent white-stone building was constructed in 1885. It stands out sharply against the traditional Toulouse pink brick that dominates the quayside architecture !!! . On its façade, you can see four majestic and monumental statues by " Pierre Esquié " . They represent : Painting, sculpture, engraving, and architecture. This iconic and remarkable building of our city covers an area of 10 000 square meters. The Brasserie des Beaux-Arts : Buildings with typically Toulouse architecture-, located on the quays of Toulouse, housing the first Parisian Brasserie to open in the Pink City. If you ever come to Toulouse, I recommend enjoying gourmet cuisine in a beautifully decorated interior, completed with a lovely terrace offering a fine view of the Garonne River. Located on the first section of the Quai de la Daurade, it was the first Parisian brasserie to open in Toulouse. The building was constructed between 1765 and 1777, as the same time as the development of the Garonne quays by " Saget " . It is built in the neoclassical style with terracotta bricks, typical of our city's architecture. I highly recommend this gourmet brasserie , which offers a truly remarkable interior decor and an outdoor terrace. CONCLUSION : If you cime to Toulouse, don't hesitate to rent a bike and explore the quays of the Garonne. - The Toulouse's terracotta bricks .
The history : Today, we are going to focus on one of the most distinctive features of Toulouse : its brick !!!. Indeed, Toulouse is rare case in France of a large city built with bricks , as the country has historically preferred ashlar and white Stone . But using stone was impossible in Toulouse built , on a site far from any stone quarries . The Romans, great builders, had the solution : brick. When they founded Toulouse 2000 years ago, they the first city in Gaul where fired brick was used . Nowdays : Today, the brick of Toulouse is called " brique foraine " , its name is thought to come from latin " foraneus " , meaning " from another place " . In the Middle Ages, the term " Foraine " referred to bricks made in a brickyard, which were of better quality than those usual produced directly on construction sites . It before came from a different place than the construction site. Originally referring to a brick of higher quality than common bricks the name " brique foraine " has become more generic today and now refers to all bricks in the Toulouse format, regardless of their quality. Be carreful not to confuse Toulouse bricks with those from northern France : The " brique foraine " has a shape that can be assembled like the ancient Roman bricks. Its format is what distinguished the " brique foraine " from other types of bricks. As the medieval descendant of Roman brick, it is large and flat, with the particularity that its width is two-thirds of its length . And this is indeed the main difference with what is called, at least in Toulouse, the " brique du Nord " , like in the city of Lille, whose width is half of its length . From the 12th. century on wards, this " brique du Nord " conquered most of the brick region in France and Europe because it was likely more practical : Easy to lay . Its format also allows for the creation of decorative geometric patterns. The Toulouse brick is much more expensive to install . For example, for its ornamentation, " the brique foraine " like in Toulouse, relies on costly brick layers specialized in cutting bricks that are already laid on the wall . They were called upon to create moldings, pilasters , and other architectural decorations !!!. Facade of Malbork Castle, Poland, 13th. century. ( Northern's bricks ) . Church of the Jacobins, Toulouse, 13th. century. ( wall in brique foraine of Toulouse ) . The Evolution of the brique foraine of Toulouse : Portal with a decorative brick design, Tripière Street 31 000 Toulouse . The brick that are heirs to the Roman format , like our " brique foraine of Toulouse " , have thus been marginalized and have survived only in a few regions that have preserved ancient construction traditions, particularly in Sapin, central Italy, and the Toulouse region . In the Middle Ages, in a city built mainly of wood only monuments and the houses of wealthy owners were constructed with bricks, as brick was an expensive material. The fires, particularly the great fire in 1463 that devastated Toulouse , prompted the " Capitouls " , the city"s administrators, to issue edicts that gradually led to the widespread use of brick in more common constructions . Consequently, while in the Middle Ages the brick was always well-fired and sturdy , from the Renaissance on wards, lower-quality bricks became acceptable, as larger brick kilns produced both well-fired bricks and those were under fired. The Toulouse brick was thus actually made up of a range of materials, from well-fired bricks, which were expensive, to under fired bricks, which were, inexpensive, along with intermediate qualities . When under fired brick was used on facade, it had to be protected by paints or coatings of reddish-brown sometimes retraced to entrance the imitation of brick . The Curse of the Toulouse brick : Coating with false joints imitating and protecting the true brick !!! . But fashion changes . In the last third of the 18th. century, the desire to imitate the architecture of Parian stone buildings became prevalent in Toulouse. The brick, which was once a valued material, temporary becomes unflavored . From then on, the city is repainted white, and the brick walls are sometimes carved with deep grooves to imitate cut stone . Traces of this can still be seen on some Toulouse facades, but generally, this white paint was removed . Starting in the late 19th. century. Only the grooves carved into the brick remain from this white period !!! . In other periods, it was not stone that people sought to imitate but the " northern's brick " . Indeed, the vertical joints of the walls made of " northern's brick " perfectly over lap every other vow, whereas those of " brique foraine " consists of horizontal courses, in which there is traditionally on concern for alignment with the vertical joints of the walls . Subject to an increasingly strong Parisian influence and wanting to correct what was then seen as a flaw, the people of Toulouse began to repaint certain facades to rectify them . Have you noticed that the beautiful facade of the Capitole has been touched up in this way ? Almost invisible from a distance, this brick of engraving false joints and masking the real joints to achieve a " trompe-l'oeil " uniformity of the brickwork becomes apparent when one gets close enough to the facade . Facade of Capitole seen up close !!! . Another sing of external influence in the development of yellow brick in Toulouse starting in 1840, which began to replace while paint in the imitation of Parisian architecture. It gives a very Parisian tone to the grand Haussmannien avenues of Toulouse . The yellow brick is particularly found on Haussmannien style buildings like the one above on Alsace-Lorraine Street . Thus , throughout its history, torn between the desire to assert its traditional particularities and the pressure to imitate Parisian models, the architecture of Toulouse bricks is surely one the most original in Europe : That of a city of Roman bricks in a country of city of stone or " northern's bricks " . Welcome in Toulouse. The blog from Toulouse. Greetings , Franck .
- The architecture of the mansion of " the knights of Saint-John of Jerusalem " .
Introduction : Today, I present to you a new private mansion in Toulouse, just as fascinating for its architecture as for its history. Architecturally, its magnificent facade is inspired by the " Palazzo Chigi " , located in Rome , Italy . I suggest we set off together to explore this magnificent mansion . History : The Middle Ages : Thanks to several donations made by the Toulouse family in the early 12th. century, " the Hospitaliers of " Saint-John of Jerusalem " , whose mission included welcoming pilgrims and providing care for the sick were able to establish themselves in Toulouse, in the district of the church of " Dalbade " . Elevated to the status of a grand priory in 1315, it included a hospital, the church of the " Saint-Remy ", a cloister, a chapel , seven shops, a massive tower housing archives and relics, accommodations for the knights, tables and a cemetery with the earliest burials dating back to the 10th. or 11th. century . In 1160, the Bishop of Toulouse, " Raymond IV " , granted the Hospitaliers permission to have a cemetery near their church. After, excavations, the study of 1869 burials revealed the presence of vaults, collective graves, individual tombs, coffins, or simple single burials. The population was predominantly male, along with 400 burials of children and adolescents. At the Site of the former cloister , there is a spectacular sarcophagus . The 17th. and 18th. century : During the 15th. century , severe fires particularly affected this area of the city, as most buildings were made of wood, and the mansion of " Saint-John of Jerusalem " did not escape this disaster . From 1668 , it was completely rebuilt. The design of the building in the classical order is attributed to " Jean-Pierre Rivalz " , the official architect and painter of the city of Toulouse. The first phase of construction focused on the street-facing facade. In 1680, a second phase of work closed off the courtyard to the east with the construction of a building that included a vaulted stable and rooms for the students. Most of the painted decorations are part of this find phase of construction . Contemporary period : From 1903 to 1986, the former priory was occupied by the School of Business. In 1986 and 1990, a large part of the 17th. century building was classified or listed as historical monuments. The entire complex was listed in 2015. The Architecture of this mansion : It is a late testimony to Renaissance and Classical architecture in Toulouse. As we have seen, it was completely rebuilt in the 17th. century by the famous Toulouse architect " Jean-Pierre Rivalz " . This mansion despite numerous subsequent renovations has remained largely intact. The great achievement of this building is its splendid street-facing facade. It stretches across 14 bays, punctuated by two magnificent gateways. All the level of the upper floor named " nobles " , altering between triangular and curved pediments . We can also observe the presence of numerous wrought-iron balconies. The ornament of various families that distinguished themselves during the crusades are depicted there . The imposing central portal is framed by two columns and topped with Doric frieze. But the surprising feature of this mansion is that above stands the portal stands a " Maltese cross " . Proof that this mansion has maintained a very close connection with the era of the crusaders throughout its history. As you enter, you pass trough a monumental covered walkway. Admire the magnificent craftsmanship of the vaulted ceilings . You will arrive in a main courtyard reminiscent of an old cloister, with three arcades buildings. Indeed, only the southern side consists of the walls of the neighboring " Dalbade church " . Finally, inside this mansion houses numerous treasures such as murals, stunning wooden ceilings, and contemporary artworks . In these photos, you can see old stables, along with numerous sarcophagi, although it is not entirely clear who is buried there !!! . That all for today, my friends. I hope that the architectural and historical exploration of the " Saint-Jean de Jerusalem " mansion has transported you back to the era the Crusaders !!! . Welcome in Toulouse. The blog from Toulouse. Greeting, Franck .

- The Protestant Temple in Toulouse.
The history of the temple of Toulouse . Introduction : What can be said is that in Toulouse region, the coexistence between Catholics and Protestants has never been good . The protestants were well established in our region, and the King of France was Catholic... It was during the Wars of Religion that everything changed. The greatest unrest took place in 1562 in Toulouse. Riots, massacres, and street fight between Protestants and Catholics in the streets of Toulouse resulted in between 3 000 and 5 000 deaths. This led to the exclusion of all Protestants from Toulouse after May 17, 1562. You will discover that the location on the Protestant Temple of Toulouse might bring a smile !!! . A little history : Mosaic medallion on the Protestant religion . It was in 1271, with the advent of " King Philip III the Bold " , that he took possession of the county of Toulouse and annexed it. To establish his authority, the King had the royal treasury built on " Place du Salin " . A building with an imposing 2 500M2 architecture, featuring 20 meters-high tower. In the Middle Ages, this was where the royal agents held trials, collected various royal taxes, and kept records of titles related to the royal domain. in 1463, King " Louis XI " passing through Toulouse, stayed there for two months. This makes people smile, it's that the location of the Protestant Temple of Toulouse is that it stands in the former royal treasury of the Catholic King of France. At that time, many Protestants from Toulouse were tortured and executed at this location between the 16th. and 18th. century. In 1792, during the French Revolution, the royal treasury was sold. It will be bought back in 1807 by the " Sisters of Charity of Our Lady " . They own the convent and the church of " Saint-Antonin-du-Salin " , as well as the former treasury. But in 1904, they were expelled and everything was sold. Two Protestant marchants , after acquiring the building of the former treasury with an area of 850M2 sold it in 1908 to the " Reformed Cultural Association " . The architecture of the Temple : The street sign indicating the location of the Toulouse Temple. It was the Protestant architect " Léon DAURES " who restored and resigned the building in a neo-Gothic style, incorporating some medieval elements !!! . The initial work in the 19th. century involved providing the tower with a single-pitched roof. It was not until 1908, with the purchase of the temple by the " Cultural Association of the Reformed Church of Toulouse " , that more extensive work took place . Among them : The installation of stained windows by " DE CALMELS " . The creation of neoclassical windows on the facade. The magnificent organ and the galleries will be created by " Théodore Puget " . The first service was held in November 1911. The Protestant temple of Toulouse was classified as a historical monument in 1990. I've mentioned it before, but every year in October, the " Toulouse les Orgues Festival " takes places in Toulouse. Toulouse, due to its exceptional organ heritage was for a time considered the world capital of the organ. On this occasion, concerts are organized within the temple. It's a great opportunity to come and discover this remarkable building. That's all for today my friends. I wish you a great day and a good reading. Welcome in Toulouse. The blog from Toulouse.
