Hello my friends, this is Franck from the Toulouse blog.
Today, we returning to the " Jardin des Plantes " neighborhood .
We previously discussed botany .
However, if you visit Toulouse on day, this neighborhood has no shortage of points of interest.
Let's explore them together.
Starting from " Place Lafourcade ", where the tramway begins and the " Palais de Justice " metro station on line B is located.
The fountain of " Ariège-Garonne " by " Joseph Thillier and Alexandre Laporte " :

It was created by these two architects in 1896.
Originally, located in the " Jardin des Plantes " , it was moved to this spot in 1982 to entrance this unattractive wall.
The marble woman represents the Garonne River, pushing apart the Pyrenean rocks from which the spring emerges , and the young girl at her feet represents the Ariège river, pouring her jug into the waters of the Garonne.
The entire arrangement is set in a vaulted niche framed by two pairs of Doric pilasters and capitals , all topped by a broad cornice.
This fountain is quite remarkable and well worth discover.
Going up the right side of the " Allées Jules Guesde " :

The gendarmerie of Toulouse is a very intersting Art Deco building :
The journey begins with the discovering of the imposing terracotta brick building that houses the gendarmerie of Toulouse.
You will then come across a Art Deco building, the only one in the " Allées " which is quite remarkable.
Saint-Exupère church :

Before reaching the " Sorano Theater ", you will pass by a church that I have already mentioned in the post : The 4 Main Churches to See in Toulouse.
I refer you back to that post. It is worth visiting and remarkable for its architecture and interior decoration.
It is characterized by its flat pediment and its typical Toulouse terracotta brick architecture.
The Toulouse Museum of Natural history :

Next, you head up " The Allées Jules Guesde " which have been completely renoved since 2013.
It is one of the major tree-lined avenues, featuring a central strip dedicated to cyclists and pedestrians.
This avenue dates back to the 18th. century and is inspired by the Age of Enlightenment.
It was many monumental architectural projects .
Administrately , you will pass by the central police station and, on the other side, the courthouse.
As you continue up the " Allées Jules Guesde " on your right toward the Jardin des Plantes, you will arrive at the entrance to the Jardin des Plantes and the Museum.
This entrance will transport you to ancient Rome.
Indeed, it is adorned with columns made of Minervois marble and is the work of Toulouse architect " Virebent " .
It is worth nothing that the Toulouse Museum of Natural and History is the second oldest in France, after Paris !!! .
Indeed , it houses over 2,5 million specimens across its 6 000 square meters, not including the annexes and botanical gardens required.
As soon as you enter, you are immediately immersed in a different world.
You will find yourself in front of " Punch " , a massive elephant , and " Twinga " , the giraffe.
Above " Punch " is an enormous skeleton of " Quetzalcoatlus " .
The museum is very popular.
First, you have a permanent exhibition covering five themes :
Planet Earth.
Living Beings.
The concept of time.
Humans, and the future.
Additionally, there are regulary changing temporary exhibition.
The advantage is that they are all interactive, requiring your participation.
The museum also offers many workshops for young people and hosts highly notable cultural events .
If you are there at mealtime, don't overlook eating at " Moaï ", the museum's restaurant.
You can access it trough the main entrance on your right facing the gift shop.
Having tried it many times.
I recommend it for a good meal.
And if you can diner on the restaurant's beautiful terrace, I'll leave that surprise to you !!! .
The Sorano Theater :

Created in 1964, it is actually the former auditorium of the Toulouse Museum Natural History.
When you stand of in front of the theater, you will fell as through you have stepped back to ancient Greece.
The entrance features four large columns adorned with grand capitals .
It has 430 seats and it programming focuses on new creations and youth.
It has been listed as a historical monument since 1979.
The faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Toulouse :

In fact, it's the university health library of the faculty of Medicine in Toulouse, which is located in the southeastern part of the city, in " Rangueil " neighborhood.
There are few classes held there, but it is where all future doctors complete their theses.
At the end of the 19th. century , the faculty moved to this magnificent building.
It was built in 1891 under the direction of architect " Joseph Thillier " .
This magnificent building is not in the Toulouse style, as it is made of white stone.
Its façade features statues of renowned scientists positioned in niches.
The Quai des Savoirs :

It was during the renovation of the " Allées Jules Guesde " that these two buildings, which belonged to the faculty were remarkable restored.
This place is a venue for exhibitions, experimentation, meeting, and discovery .
It houses all the administrative services for Toulouse's faculties that are necessary for international students.
On the façade , you can admire the statues of " Lavoisier and Fermat " .
A little secret between us: if you enter the building inner courtyard, go have a drink at the small café located there.
You can then go directly into the " Jardin des Plantes" to admire this beautiful garden.
There you have it, my friends, this is the end of the first part of this fabulous tour .
I hope you enjoyed following it with me .
I through it would be interesting to present it to you as a guided tour .
Welcome in Toulouse.
The blog from Toulouse.
Greetings Franck.
