Another interesting fact is : this building has always been occupied by a bank. As the saying goes : Time is money ...... The merchant bourgeoisie needed a precise system of measurement. This clock symbolizes the continous flow of work and money-24 hours a day !!! . In short, this this distinctive clock was reserved for a privileged population. INTRODUCTION : A carriage passes in front of this private mansion, whose construction is truly remarkable in the historic center of Toulouse. It is the legacy of the woad trade, which brought about our city's golden age in the 16 th. century. Its construction was made possible by the succession of many wealthy families. Today, it houses the Honorary Consulate of Belgium in Toulouse. The history of the private mansion in Toulouse, The story of a succession of several families : Plaque indicating that the Hôtel d'Espie currently houses the Honorary Consulate of Belgium in Toulouse. In 1750, the Count of Espie, whose father had made a great fortune in Portugal, bought the dilapidated "Aussargues private mansion" and set about building the current mansion based on the plans by " Labat de Saviganc" . Unfortunately, due to the 1755 Lisbon earthquake, the count lost his entire fortune and had to sell the private mansion to the "Marquis de Chalvet Sénéchal" of Toulouse, who completed its construction !!!. "Monsieur de Chavelet" also experienced misfortune due to his passion for painting and the construction of the " Château de Merville", a residence promised to his beloved. At this death in 1772, his son was forced to sell the townhouse. The buyer was an Irishman, "Count Justin Mac Carthy Môr", a direct descendant of the kings of southern Ireland !!! . It was in the mid-19th.century "Franck Courtois de Viçose " purchased. the mansion from the heirs of "Justin Mac Carthy". In the middle of a large wall, a tall carriage entrance, simply adorned with a heavily bearded head, opens at an angle to facilitate the entry of carriages into the main courtyard. The entrance is a semicircular space, and opposite it, at the back of the courtyard, stands a tall façade with pediments. Though narrow, it has five windows are so tall that the upper cornice of the first floor reaches the height of a typical two storey house. What particularly draws attention in this courtyard is the section of the rear façade crowned by the pediment. There are three windows on the ground floor and the same number on the first floor, behind which are the main rooms of the private mansion. The windows are framed by pilasters with ionic capitals adorned with garlands on the ground floor, and Corinthian capitals on the first floor. Above each window is a sculpted decorative element. Within these tall openings, the woodwork forms an elegant lattice with small panes. The lateral projecting sections are simple, yet a dignified appearance. CONCLUSION/TO GO FURTHER : Justin count of Mac Carthy, had a strong taste for sciences and letters, and at the end of the 18th. century, he built one of the finest private libraries in Europe within his private mansion. • The oldest brigde in Toulouse : " The Pont Neuf ".

It's beautiful to live under the blue sky on the banks go the Garonne in Toulouse !. Hello my friends, this is Franck from Toulouse Blog. Today I will tell you about the oldest bridge in Toulouse that can be described as pharaonic : the " Pont Neuf " . This construction : The best view on the Garonne river, the old beautiful medieval bridge " the Pont Neuf " and the historic city center. It was François 1er in 1541, who authorized the " Capitouls ", the local administrators at the time, to initiate the construction of this bridge. He ordered that it be made of stone and local bricks. A brick factory was specially built for its construction. The Pont Neuf truly is a colossal structure, measuring 230 meters long. Its construction due to financial reasons, took place from 1544 to 1632 , and it has remained intact for over four centuries. It is one of the few medieval bridges still present in France. Louis XIV personality inaugurated the " Pont Neuf " in Toulouse. In the 16th century, a defensive tower with a tiled rool was created on the " Pont Neuf " , along with the addition of six shops for commercial activities. The " Pont Neuf " and the floods of the Garonne : It resisted all the floods, including the one in 1875, which destroyed all the brigdes in the city except for the " Pont Neuf " . Indeed the " Pont Neuf " survived thanks to the presence of special drainage channels, called " degueloirs " , which were designed to allow the passage of the floodwaters during the violent flooding of the Garonne. On the last photo, you can see a red resin sculpture by " James Colomina ", the toulouser artist, who creates his sculptures. She is observing the Garonne river. You can find the post about, " James Colomina " in the Toulouse blog. The old bridge : " le Pont Vieux " : The old piler of the former and first medieval bridge on the Garonne River: " The Vieux Pont ". The " Pont Vieux " is the predecessor of the " Pont Neuf " in Toulouse. It was ordered to be built by count Alphonse-Jourdain in 1130. On the side of the " Hotel-Dieu ", one can notice an arch from the 15th century whose origins date back to the roman era. Indeed, it is a remnant of the " Vieux Pont " . Below, two pillar and two opening were used for boats to deliver supplies to the hospital. In the 12th century, the " Vieux Pont " was indeed a place where punishments were carried out. Al the convicts were locked in a cage and repeatedly plunged into the Garonne. Wenn François 1er decided to construct the " Pont Neuf " , it was its death warrant. It was demolished in 1639. The " Pont Neuf " by night : The "Pont Neuf " is illuminated by an ecological LED lighting system of a very white color. This is allows highlighting the main architectural features on the structure. At night, the " Pont Neuf " is : magical !!! . BONUS PHOTOS : BONUS VIDEO : There are always surprises when strolling along the banks of the Garonne in Toulouse, under a beautiful sky!. My friends , it is all for today. I am proud to have published this post that traces the history of an architectural emblem and a must-visit place in our city. • History of Renaissance architectural style in Toulouse.

Hello my friends, this Franck from Toulouse Blog. Today, we are going to talk about architecture, and more specifically about the arrival of a new architectural style in Toulouse : The Renaissance style. On a beautiful sunny afternoon, I decide to go for a walk again, searching for treasures in the streets of Toulouse. I head towards the Marengo district, not far from Matabiau station. To my great surprise, I stumbled upon two architectural treasures that even I born in Toulouse, did not know existed. I truly believe that upon discovering them, you will definitely feel that Toulouse is a city worth visiting. The two buildings that showcase traces of the Renaissance architectural style in Toulouse: These two buildings were constructed in the 19th century by the architect Virebent. These two constructions mark the return of terracotta brick in Toulouse. But the most importantly, they bring a new architectural style, namely the Renaissance style from the 16th and 17th. centuries. This leads to the exclusion of the neoclassical architectural style, which was previously prevalent in Toulouse. The first building: The first building was constructed by the architect " Virebent " in the early 19th. century. We are departing from the neoclassical architectural style here and embracing the Renaissance style. We are returning to the use of terracotta brick. A magnificent dentil cornice can be observed adorning the flat roof. Many decorative elements embellish the façade, including friezes, faces, and numerous ornemental trimmings. Adress of the building: 1, de Bornier street and 31 Paul-Dupin street 31 500 Toulouse. The second building: The second building features two angels with outspread wings on the façade, accompanied by friezes of Acanthus leaves. The building used to be a factory for architectural ornaments and tile production. After its closure, it served various other purposes. Adress of the building: 27, Colonne street 31 500 Toulouse. Thank you my friends, that's all for today. I hope that these two architectural gems will definitely convince you that Toulouse is a city worth visiting. I wish you a beautiful and peaceful day. Welcome in Toulouse. The Blog from Toulouse. Greetings Franck.

  • The takeoff of the " pionniers museum "

Le musée de " l'Envol des pionniers" . The Toulouse Airmail Museum !. Toulouse is the European capital of aeronautics and even global since we have surpassed Boeing. In fact, the history of Toulouse and aeronautics dates back a long time and I'm going to tell you about it.The takeoff of the pioneers museum opened in 2018. The museum has welcomed 40 000 visitors but currently, I believe there are many more. It was aftre the Second World War that " Pierre Georges Latécoère ", in 1918 created a true aerospace ecosystem that made Toulouse the European capital. The idea was to bring countries, continents, and peoples closer together. Aviators took flight to deliver mail. It was at their own risk and many of them died during these flights. The very first line opened was between Toulouse and Barcelona. The main airline was established in 1925, organizing two trips each year. This line started from Toulouse, made a stopover in Rabat, Morocco, and ended its course in Dakar, Senegal. Another line was opened on the South American continent, but did not have much success. It was in 1920 that " Pierre Georges Latécoère " set up his compagny in Toulouse Montaudran district of Toulouse: 6, Jacqueline Auriol street 31 400 Toulouse. In 1970, after Aeropostale declared bankruptcy, Air France set up its maintenance workshops from 1970 to 2003. Subsequently, Air France built new aircraft maintenance workshops next to Toulouse-Blagnac airport. For the past five years, this district has been under full reconstruction, you can find machines produced by " HALLE La Machine " and " the museums of the pioneers " flight there. ( The Airmail Toulouse Museum ) . In the 1920s, " Pierre Georges Latécoère " constructed hangars covering an area of 700m2, which housed the assembly lines. The museum is located exactly where the factory used to be. On the site, you can observe the presence of a runway. It was from there that the airplanes would take off. The runway is going through some changes and will be transformed into a green space, serving as a promenade for the amazing machines from " Halle la Machine " . Many renowned aviators have contributed to the success of airline routes, and among them, there stand out : Saint-Exupery, Daurat and Mermoz. In 1943, it was " Saint-Exupery " who wrote "Le Petit Prince " ( The Little Prince ), which has become the second most published book in the world after the Bible. The museum: This museum is indeed a success as it is constantly evolving and interactive. It will narrate to you all the achievements of those great aviators of the time. You will discover objects, airplanes, documentaries, and many other things. You can even practice handling an airplane's control stick. There is always: A temporary exhibition: 77 amazing objects. 25 airplane models. a 1,8 km track. 11 interactive devices. A permanent exhibition: This year's is on the entrepreneur, creator of the airmail " Pierre Georges Latécoère ". The Grand balcony Hotel: ( L'hôtel du Grand Balcon ). Upon their return, the aviators had to rest and they always went to the same hotel next to Capitole square, " The Grand Balcony Hotel ", 8/10 Jean-Antoine Romigyuière street 31 000 Toulouse. In 2008, it underwent a major renovation that made it into a 4-star hotel. The classified elements were all restored identically. You can see the most famous aviators in the pictures above. The largest picture shows us " Pierre-Georges Latécoère ". If you can pass by the hotel, why not go for a drink at the bar and admire the entire ground floor or book a room if you can. I can say that I love you so much. It was a suite dedicated to Saint-exupery with a view of the Capitole. it must be a special experience for guests to sleep in Saint-Exupery's old canopy bed, as the suite has been faithfully restored to its original state. Im glad to hear the establishment is warm, calm and offers impeccable service. The Grand Balcony Hotel by night: BONUS PHOTOS: assembly factories. I hoppe you enjoyed sharing the post about the history of these great aviators. If you have any more questions or need assistance in the future, feel free ask. Have a great day!
