Hello my friends, this Franck from Toulouse Blog.
Today, we are going to talk about architecture, and more specifically about the arrival of a new architectural style in Toulouse : The Renaissance style.
On a beautiful sunny afternoon, I decide to go for a walk again, searching for treasures in the streets of Toulouse.
I head towards the Marengo district, not far from Matabiau station.
To my great surprise, I stumbled upon two architectural treasures that even I born in Toulouse, did not know existed.
I truly believe that upon discovering them, you will definitely feel that Toulouse is a city worth visiting.
The two buildings that showcase traces of the Renaissance architectural style in Toulouse:
These two buildings were constructed in the 19th century by the architect Virebent.
These two constructions mark the return of terracotta brick in Toulouse.
But the most importantly, they bring a new architectural style, namely the Renaissance style from the 16th and 17th. centuries.
This leads to the exclusion of the neoclassical architectural style, which was previously prevalent in Toulouse.
The first building:
The first building was constructed by the architect " Virebent " in the early 19th. century.
We are departing from the neoclassical architectural style here and embracing the Renaissance style. We are returning to the use of terracotta brick.
A magnificent dentil cornice can be observed adorning the flat roof.
Many decorative elements embellish the façade, including friezes, faces, and numerous ornemental trimmings.
Adress of the building: 1, de Bornier street and 31 Paul-Dupin street 31 500 Toulouse.
The second building:
The second building features two angels with outspread wings on the façade, accompanied by friezes of Acanthus leaves.
The building used to be a factory for architectural ornaments and tile production.
After its closure, it served various other purposes.
Adress of the building: 27, Colonne street 31 500 Toulouse.
Thank you my friends, that's all for today.
I hope that these two architectural gems will definitely convince you that Toulouse is a city worth visiting.
I wish you a beautiful and peaceful day.
Welcome in Toulouse.

Greetings Franck.
