Fountain not to be miss in Toulouse...an Italian atmosphere !!! .

Today, in this post, I will introduce you to remarkable fountains that you can discover if you visit Toulouse.

Emotionally, it transports us a little bit into an Italian atmosphere.

  • The fountain located " Boulbonne Place " :

This fountain was inaugurated in 1984 by architect " Calley " , based on this limestone sculpture at the location of a former well called the " well of Four Square " .

Toulouse is represented here by a young woman sitting on the arch of a bridge, holding a helm in her right hand.

She is dressed in traditional attire.

Her other hand rests on the coast of arms of city Toulouse.

Beneath the bridge flows the Garonne River, personified as a nude woman with long hair, partially emerging and operating a waterwheel.

Finally, the three lion heads are by " Madeleine Tezenas Monciel " .

  • The " Clémence Isaure " Fountain :

It was created by a pharmacist from the neighborhood trough a donation in 1905.

It purpose was both aesthetic and useless. ...

A competition was held in 1910, and it was won by " Léo-Laporte-Blairsy " .

It was inaugurated in 1913 after much criticism of its appearance.

Indeed, being the muse of " the Academy des Jeux Floraux " of Toulouse, it faced numerous controversies but ultimately remained as it was.

The " Clémence Isaure " fountain, or " Belle Paule " is dedicated to the legendary creator of the floral games.

It remind you that " the Academy des Jeux Floraux " of Toulouse is the oldest in the world !!! .

It is in the Art Nouveau style.

It combines highly detailed floral and animal representations in bronze with clean, geometric forms.

It is located at the top of a column, stoning draped in a simple dress.

It evokes the female form and its connection with the earth and humanity.

There is a poem inscribed on the fountain, and it is adorned with flowers every year by the neighborhood residents on December 31st., for the coming year.

The residents place uncultivated flowers that float in the basin .

The water here springs from lions heads .

  • Fountain located " Pellissier " street , names Fountain " Des puits'Clos " :

It was built in 1884 to cover a blind facade by the architect of historic buildings.

The Corinthian columns dating from 1749 are from the " Dalbade church " .

It is post-modern.

In 1982, the municipality decided to beautiful the neighborhood .

The project was approved in 1982.

Bids were solicited for the foundry, electrical work, brass work, and masonry.

The work was completed in 1984.

Originally there was a Statue of " Psyche " in cast iron, bit it was never replaced due to extensive damage.

However, the columns of this statue evoke an Italian atmosphere !!! .

  • The Fountain located Saint-Scarbe place :

The name of this square has not changed since to Middle Ages, and I have always found it to have a slight Italian atmosphere !!! .

It was created in 1989 by the architect " André Vernette " and was destroyed in 2002.

The residents of the Mécontent neighborhood were unhappy , so the municipality reconstructed a fountain that had been in the cloister of the " Musée des Augustin " .

The fountain consists of a circular basin with column in the center by an anonymous 18.th century sculpture of " Diana " .

I recommend that you go for dinner at the on of the two excellent restaurants located on the square in the evening .

  • " Dame Elche " Fountain located in Compans-Caffarelli Garden " :

It features a copy of the mysterious 4th. century Iberian bust, given by the city of Elche to Toulouse, it's twin city since 1981.

It is one of the most famous statue in the world.

The statue was discovering in 1987 in " Acudia " , south of the city " Elche "

It stood 56 meters tall and dates from the 4.th and 5th. century Jesus Christ.

It is the most signifient archaeological discovery of Iberian culture.

The original is preserved in the Madrid museum.

In Toulouse, one could say that is has found its place in the " Jardin Compans-Caffarelli " .

  • Fountain located "Rouaix place"

It is located at the highest point of the old town.

It was created in 1829 at the side at the first resurgence of water from the Romans aqueduct, which transported water from the " Lardenne " neighborhood, west of Toulouse, to this location by crossing the Garonne via a now-wanished bridge.

It is made of stone with cast iron decoration around the fountain and white marble plaques.

It was built in 1828 by " Raymond " and is one of the oldest fountain in Toulouse.

It is very simple, ending with a gabled roof ornamented in an antique style.

It rises in the middle of a gray stone basin, and the water flows from two lions heads.

That's all for today, my friends.

I hope you will enjoy discovering these magnificent fountains as you explore the center of Toulouse.

Welcome in Toulouse.
